Mound Cemetery Tours
Nestled on a bluff overlooking the Root River, Mound Cemetery is as peaceful today
as it was in 1852. Named for it's early inhabitants, the Woodland mound builders used this area as a ceremonial and sacred burial grounds.
Here one can visit the graves of Revolutionary and Civil War veterans, Inventors, a Runaway slave and of course the Indian burial mounds. These men and women helped build and shape the City of Racine and also left a legacy of stone.
The many pieces of artwork and architectural creations can been seen through the cemeteries educational and historical walking tours. The vast array of mature and flowering trees create a wildlife refuge in an urban setting.
These walking tours last about 1½ hours.
Weather permitting, the tour season begins around May 15 and ends November 1st.
The tours are free and available Monday through Friday to groups ranging from 5 - 30.
Saturdays and Sundays are available by request.
A 14 day in advance appointment is requested.
